Frequently Asked Questions
"...I can't believe your place hasn't yet been discovered. I think I want to keep it that way. ...see you next year!"
What is the best way to get to Anguilla?
There are several airlines that carry to Anguilla. From the States, you may wish to take American Airlines directly to Anguilla or take USAIR to St. Maarten, then taking the Marigot Ferry over to Anguilla Blowing Point Station. Please see airline information below.
What is included in my stay at Sur La Plage?
Six days per week of maid service is included, along with all furnishings, appliances, linens, basic toiletries, and beach gear. The villa has everything you need to comfortably move right in. More on amenities.
Do you provide food or chef services?
We can have some basic food items ready for your arrival so that you don't need to worry about breakfast-- please let us know your requirements. We also recommend a local cook who is available to prepare authentic Caribbean meals. This must be arranged separately and incurs and additional charge. Contact us for more details.
Are the villas close to each other? Is there privacy?
The villas are separated by dozens of yards of space and a row of small trees. While you can see each villa from the other, the decks remain largely private and sound does not travel well between the villas. The entire property is 2 acres, allowing for plenty of private yard space.
Is Meads Bay a private beach?
Sur La Plage rests directly on Meads Bay, a mile-long stretch of sandy beach. Each end of the bay hosts a resort and several villas line the shoreline. While the beach is not private, it is sparsely populated. You may share the beach with several dozen people in high season, but off-season, you may very well have it to yourselves.... see the Anguilla 360° Beach Map
What is there to do in Anguilla?
Anguilla is a very low-key island with world-class resorts, restaurants and beaches. In general, people come to unwind, and to reconnect with nature via horseback riding, snorkeling, scuba, etc. Most of our guests enjoy days on the beach and evenings sampling the exquisite restaurants and live music in town.... more info
Should I tip the maid?
Your reservation fee also requires a 10% minimum service charge. This is required by the government and shared among villa staff. However, it is not uncommon for our guests to leave an additional tip at the end of their stay if they enjoyed their service.
Is there laundry service?
We do not provide a self-serve washer. However, we can occasionally wash, dry and fold your mid-trip laundry for a minimal fee. Just ask your housekeeper.
Do I need a car?
We recommend renting a car while on the island. This will enable you to most easily explore and get out to the fabulous restaurants! We recommend Island Car Rental which will deliver the car directly to the villa and handle your temporary license.
How close is St. Martin?
St. Martin is only just a 1/2 hour, inexpensive ferry ride away. If you are in Anguilla for a week, you may wish to spend one of your days there for shopping, gaming and nightlife. More about the Marigot Ferry and St. Martin.
Do you provide airport pick up?
We do not include pick up, and find taking a cab to the villa to be an easy, convenient option. Cost about US$10. Both the airport and Blowing Point ferry landing are less than 10 minutes away from the villas, and simply directing the driver to take you to "Sur La Plage on Meads Bay" is completely sufficient to get you to your island place!
What is the currency?
Most businesses and customs accept the US dollar. There is also EC money circulating and it may be helpful to have EC$20 handy for small bakeries, purchases, etc. Credit cards are most convenient and nearly universally accepted.
